Software Licensing Policy

Staying in compliance with software licenses can be quite difficult. End users have a reputation for being cavalier with copying software, while certain software vendors have a tendency to change license terms with minimal advance notice.

This policy from TechRepublic Premium provides guidelines for making sure the software on computers and other devices owned by the organization is used within the terms of the license provided by the software vendor.

From the policy:

Sourcing and installation responsibilities

Requests for software and upgrades must be submitted to the CIO when practicable. And major version upgrades should be verified by the CIO and/or their designee.

Automated software upgrades provided by vendor repositories and/or updates deemed necessary for information security purposes, as well as patches, bug fixes and updates referred to as “point releases,” will be considered exempt from this reporting requirement.

The download comprises a six-page PDF and Word document.

Previously priced at $99, this is now available to download for $19. Or free with Premium annual subscription: click here to find out more.
