Hardware Decommissioning Policy

Every hardware device used by an organization has a finite lifespan or viable period of use, and the retirement of old gadgets and the acquisition of new ones is a part of life with technology.

This policy from TechRepublic Premium provides guidelines for the appropriate removal and disposal of all technological hardware used by the company. It covers scenarios in which hardware is donated/given away or intended for recycling/ destruction.

From the policy:

DECOMMISSIONING RESPONSIBILITIES

Decommissioning of hardware (whether due to obsolescence, failure or another reason) will be the jurisdiction of the IT department, which will work with any related owners/stakeholders (e.g., finance, if this involves an accounting system, HR if it is a payroll server or employees themselves if it involves a BYOD device). The IT department will also be responsible for owning and carrying out this policy and updating it as necessary.

The download comprises a 10-page PDF and Word document.

Previously priced at $99, this is now available to download for $9. Or free with a Premium annual subscription: click here to find out more.
