Domain Name System (DNS) Policy

Domain Name System, or DNS, is the veritable backbone of internet communication. It translates computer names into the network (IP) addresses they represent for easy and fault-tolerant access. For instance, rather than enter an unremarkable series of numbers such as 184.108.40.206 into a browser’s address window users can type a website or server name such as facebook.com and this will connect them to their destination. IT departments benefit from DNS as well since they can route traffic to desired sites or systems using this functionality and improve uptime and availability for users when system or network problems occur.
